WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The LGV Theory Test consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions covering a wide range of topics. This is done on a computer at your local theory test centre. The pass mark is 85 correct answers.
You will also need to do the hazard perception. For this, you will be shown 19 clips in which you must recognise a potential hazard; the scrolling window uses a scale of 1 - 5 according to how soon you spot the hazard. The pass mark is 67.
The theory test is £26.00 for the multiple choice questions and £11.00 for the Hazard Perception. These tests can be taken separately or together and both parts must be passed before taking your practical driving test. Theory tests are held at a DSA designated test centre (find your nearest here). When a driving course is booked, each trainee will be given a LGV / PCV theory log on details.

Module 2 Case Study
In addition to passing the two theory tests, if you want to become a professional LGV / PCV driver (which means you will drive for a living) you will also need to pass a Driver CPC Case Study Test.
The Driver CPC Module 2 Case Study Test is computer based. There are seven case study tests, each with between six and eight questions. The questions will be based on real life situations which you may encounter in your working life as a professional driver.
Module 4 Practical Demonstration
To achieve the professional Driver CPC initial qualification, you will be required to complete a Driver CPC Module 4 Practical Demonstration Test.
The Driver CPC Module 4 test takes place at the our training centre and the examiner will test your knowledge in the following areas:
- Loading the vehicle with due regard for safety rules and proper vehicle use
- Ensuring security of the vehicle and contents
- Ability to prevent criminality and trafficking of illegal immigrants
- The ability to assess emergency situations
- Preventing physical risk - Emphasis on daily walk round vehicle safety checks
